At one of our recent Residents’ meetings there was a suggestion that we should explore how we might create a greater sense of a community in Loughton. And your Committee has listened.
We would like to invite you to give your opinions on how we might develop our Association and make it more proactive in promoting the community in Loughton and beyond. We are particularly keen to get your ideas and feedback on three basic questions:
Who are we?
We have in Loughton a rich diversity of people. But we know very little about each other and what interests and passions we share. We would like to carry out a kind of ‘social audit’. Some of you may have expertise that you would be happy to share. You might be willing to give a talk or provide advice to others who are facing problems or challenges that you have faced; you may be an amateur gardener or professional financier; you may know about computers or be able to help a child with their homework. The Residents’ Association could help make the connection, but we need your help in working out how we might do this …
What do we want?
You may have a private passion or special interest and wonder if there are others living in Loughton that share your interest – do you keep fish in your garden or spiders in your bedroom; do you love jogging, painting, cooking, rebuilding old cars or scrabble? We could put people in touch, but we don’t currently have a Directory of Interests …
Do you have a Vision for Loughton?
Loughton is changing. This is inevitable. Some change is for the better (tidying up ‘corners’, introducing new play areas), but some is for the worse (cramming large houses onto small plots). Would you help us catalogue what we have and what we treasure? Are you interested in finding out about Loughton’s history, and preparing a paper on our listed buildings, green spaces and protected trees? Could you help us write a new policy for the Conservation Area and prepare a vision of where we would like Loughton to be in 20 years’ time?
If you would like to be more involved with your Community, make new friends, and learn more about Loughton and its riches please contact a member of the Committee or add a comment below. We’d love to hear from you!

My passion would be to raise awareness of issues to do with International development and social justice.
I am happy to give talks about my time in Ghana with VSO as a Teacher Support Officer.
I am a Justice of the Peace and find the work of a magistrate most interesting, fulfilling and eye opening.
I am an Infant school teacher and trained Parent Educator who has run various discussion groups over the years for people seeking encouragement with raising their family.
I enjoy scrabble, as long as you don't take it too seriously, but hate Monopoly!
I helped to make one of the original CLUTCH Club websites about London Road in Loughton and have a presentation of Old Loughton photos available for those who are interested.
I am a retired Laboratories Manager.
Since helping my own children with Maths I have helped many children with homework and coursework and more recently some pointers for homework using e mail. For a couple of years I was a voluntary classroom assistant in adult numeracy for which I was CRB checked.
I have a growing interest in the Historical Jesus. Since people like Schweitzer did not get on very well I was told this could be a waste of time but much water in Liberal Theology, Anthropology and Archaeology have flowed under the bridge since then.
I have lent a voice alongside the LRA and PC in trying to preserve Loughton and its Conservation Area. Under the Planning Dept’s ‘planned development policy’, it seems to be if it’s green you can build what you like as long as you use the right bricks and tiles. I would be prepared to do a small part in preparing the long overdue Policy for the Loughton Conservation Area
